Vietnam keen to learn from Japanese agricultural cooperative model

NDO/VNA—Vietnam wants to learn from the agricultural cooperative model of Japan in order to seek a path for development that suits its own situation, Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung told Fumiyasu Akegawa, President of Devnet Japan, at a meeting in Hanoi on October 21.

Deputy PM Dung said that it would be beneficial if Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia studied this cooperative model together with the support of international organisations under the United Nations and Devnet.

He thanked Devnet for supporting flood victims in Vietnam’s central provinces.

For his part, Akegawa said that his organisation was launching projects to support agriculture and poor people in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia.

In particular, the organisation plans to build agricultural cooperatives after the Japanese model in Vietnam, with the involvement of the UN Development Programme (UNDP), the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO).
