Vietnam-Slovenia trade revenue grows strongly

Vietnam and Slovenia have seen a rapid growth in bilateral trade revenue in the past years with the two-way trade revenue in 2014 at US$125.3 million, doubling that in 2013 at US$59.92 million, heard a seminar on Vietnam-Slovenia economic co-operation held by the Ministry of Industry and Trade on November 13.

Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Ho Thi Kim Thoa said the multifaceted relations between Vietnam and Slovenia have been continuously consolidated, particularly the trade relations with the two-way trade revenue doubled each year.

She noted that the signing of an economic co-operation agreement between Vietnam and Slovenia in June 2015 and the Vietnam-EU Free Trade Agreement will open up huge opportunities for enterprises of the two countries to enhance investment and business activities.

Thoa added that Slovenia is a gateway for Vietnamese goods to the EU, thus Vietnam is willing to help Slovenian enterprises to approach the ASEAN market. Vietnam hopes to promote economic co-operation with Slovenia in the fields of strength for Slovenia including the paper industry, electronics industry, shipping, logistics and processing industry, the Vietnamese Deputy Minister stated.

Acting Director of the International Relations Department at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia, Ante Milevoj said the bilateral trade relations between Vietnam and Slovenia have increased by ten times in nine years from 2005 to 2014, showing enormous potential for further development.

In the first five months of 2015, the two-way trade revenue reached US$76 million. Vietnam's main products exported to Slovenia include seafood, coffee, rice, bags, suitcases, hats, umbrellas, footwear, textiles, wood and wood products among others.

Slovenian Minister of Economic Development and Technology Zdravko Počivalšek said the two countries have many advantages and opportunities for co-operation in the areas of heavy industry, shipping and logistics. He also expressed his wish to boost co-operation with Vietnam in the fields of water management, biotechnology, nanotechnology, transport and logistics.
