According to Tu Thi Le Na, Head of the Muay Division under the General Department of Sports and Physical Training, this year’s tournament was an outstanding success, reflecting the clear maturity of Viet Nam’s young fighters and affirming the steady progress of the Muay movement nationwide.
The gold medals went to promising athletes: Banh The Minh (Ha Noi) in the category of Waikru; duos Ha Bao Ngoc and Me Thi Van (Ha Noi), and Mai Tuan Anh and Dinh Van Duc Anh (Dong Nai–Ho Chi Minh City) in the Mai Muay performance event; and Bui Ngoc Huyen (Thai Nguyen) in the 12–13 age group combat category.
This year’s competition gathered more than 1,200 athletes from 82 countries and territories, underscoring the growing global reach of Muay.
With Muay being included for the first time in the programme of the third Asian Youth Games (AYG3), set to take place in Bahrain this October, the achievements of Viet Nam’s young team in Abu Dhabi carry particularly special significance.
Assessing the fighters’ performances, Tu Thi Le Na stressed: “The athletes competed with great effort, bravery and confidence, fully worthy of the meticulous preparations of the coaching staff. This success provides a favourable foundation for the team as they look ahead to conquering the AYG3 stage.”
