This was the first meeting of the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister and leaders of ministries, with the Ambassadors and heads of Vietnamese representative missions abroad on economic diplomacy, aiming to mobilise resources for economic recovery and development of the country after the pandemic.
According to Ambassador Dinh Toan Thang, the conference showed the drastic and prompt guidance of the Party Central Committee and Government, for economic management, particularly economic diplomacy.
Economic diplomacy is one of the key tasks in the current period.
In his sharing with Nhan Dan (People) Newspaper’s reporters in France, Ambassador Thang noted that the implementation of the economic diplomacy mission in the new situation was the focus of the conference. This will be the impetus for representative missions abroad to better carry out this important task.
In the context of the impacts of the pandemic and challenges due to major and multi-dimensional fluctuations in the international arena, the representative missions in France have defined economic diplomacy as one of the key tasks.
They are also aware that the directives of the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Ministers are extremely important orientations for the implementation of economic diplomacy for Vietnamese representative missions abroad.
Referring to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's official visit to France in November 2021, Ambassador Dinh Toan Thang emphasised that this was an important milestone for Vietnam's economic relations with French partners. Following the visit, the Embassy and representative agencies in France carried out a series of different economic diplomatic activities with positive results, as well as continued the plans to promote their cooperation with French partners.
The Vietnamese Embassy and representative missions in France have visited and worked with more than 10 localities, organised seven business forums and five investment and trade promotion activities, and exchanged with more than 100 businesses.
Visits and exchanges with leading French businesses and corporations over recent years at major economic centres have further clarified the demand and potential for cooperation. This is also an important basis for the Vietnamese Embassy and representative offices in France to continue strengthening connections for projects in key areas of Vietnam today, including infrastructure, aerospace, clean energy, logistics, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, healthcare and the environment.
The Vietnamese Embassy and representative agencies in France identified trade, investment, science and technology, and tourism promotion, as important factors to take advantage of the available strengths of French localities and partners.
Promotion activities for Vietnam's top export products such as textiles and garments and agricultural products, especially rice and pepper, will continue to be promoted in many forms and networks, towards taking advantage of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA).
Trade, investment, science-technology and tourism promotion are important factors to take advantage of the available strengths of French localities and partners.
Other multilateral partners operating in France will continue to be prestigious and potential partners of Vietnam, especially in UNESCO's programmes, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OCED) or the Francophone International Organisation (OIF).
Ambassador Dinh Toan Thang affirmed that the Embassy and representative missions of Vietnam in France will actively support Vietnamese enterprises that are planning to establish and expand business activities in France while enhancing the cooperation among the localities of the two countries.
