This is the second time the ST25 rice variety has seized the award, following the first time in 2019.

This year’s competition saw the participation of more than ten countries with 30 rice samples. The second prize went to Cambodian rice, while the third-place prize went to Indian rice.

The ST25 rice sample was grown on a scale of 2.6 ha in Thanh Thoi An Commune, Tran De District, Soc Trang Province, in the summer-autumn crop and was harvested on September 14 and 15.

Rice Trader held the annual “World’s Best Rice” competition for the first time in 2009. Vietnamese rice won the highest prize for the first time in 2019 and the second prize in 2020.

Last year, Cambodian rice received the highest prize in Thailand, while Vietnamese, Thai and Lao rice varieties were named in the top four.
