The event was attended by Politburo member Pham Quang Nghi who is assigned to steer the Hanoi municipal Party Committee, Minister of Transport Dinh La Thang and former Chairman of Hanoi municipal People’s Committee.

The overpass on Highway 5 was one of the key transportation projects in the capital during the 2011-2015 period to celebrate the 12th National Party Congress.

The flyover, 809.7 metres long and 26 metres wide, was designed with six lanes for vehicles to travel at a maximum speed of 80 kilometres per hour. It was finished after seven months of construction, eight months ahead of schedule.

It was built under the Build-Transfer (BT) model of the interchange in the centre of Long Bien district constructed by Him Lam Joint Stock Company with a total investment of over VND2.8 trillion (US$125 million). The project also includes Hanoi-Dong Dang railway and renovation of the roads at the interchange.

The project is expected to contribute to improving transport infrastructure serving industrial zones and urban areas in the north of the Red River, promoting the socio-economic development of the capital and surrounding localities.

On the same day, a ceremony was held to pin the plate ‘Project in celebration of the 12th National Party Congress’ for the 105 kilometre Hanoi-Hai Phong National Highway. The project is being carried out under the BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer) model with a total investment of VND30 trillion (US$1.38 billion).
