Talking about the plan to support Vietnam in implementing its vaccination strategy against the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Kidong Park, WHO Representative in Vietnam said WHO has been coordinating closely with the Government of Vietnam and will continue to work with the country on the latest scientific data, helping the Vietnamese Government make effective decisions to respond to the pandemic.
Vietnam has so far received nearly 7.5 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines through the COVAX mechanism including more than 5 million doses of the Moderna vaccine and nearly 2.5 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine.
WHO will continue to ship more batches of vaccines to Vietnam in the coming weeks to help the Vietnamese Government protect people’s lives, Dr. Kidong Park noted.
In addition, WHO is also assisting Vietnam in its vaccination planning, training and monitoring in accordance with regulations and ensuring safety during vaccination in difficult-to-reach areas while evaluating the effectiveness of the current vaccination campaign, among others.
WHO is also providing technical support to Vietnam to help strengthen the capacity of Vietnam's vaccine management system, including guidance on research and the development of vaccines against COVID-19.
