Asia's factories hit a rough patch in July as rising input costs and a new wave of coronavirus infections overshadowed solid global demand.

* China administered about 16.7 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines on Aug. 1, bringing the total to 1.67 bln doses, data from the National Health Commission showed on Monday.

* US senators introduced a sweeping US$1-trillion bipartisan plan to invest in roads, bridges, ports, high-speed internet and other infrastructure, with some predicting the chamber could pass this week the largest public works legislation in decades.

* Cambodia will begin offering a booster shot, switching between the AstraZeneca and Chinese vaccines.

* India reported 40,134 new cases of the coronavirus in the last 24 hours, a government statement said on Monday. Deaths rose by 422 in the same period, according to the federal health ministry.

* Russia on Monday reported 23,508 new COVID-19 cases, including 3,330 in Moscow, taking the total number of cases to 6,312,185 since the pandemic began. The government coronavirus also confirmed 785 coronavirus-related deaths in the last 24 hours.

* Some major Australian cities have enforced tougher restrictions to prevent the spread of the Delta variant, while top US infectious disease expert Anthony Fauci said America would not lock down again despite surging cases.

* Britain will offer booster shots for 32 million people next month, according to a media report, while its finance minister pressed for an easing of travel restrictions to boost tourism.

* New Zealand will open up one-way quarantine-free travel for seasonal workers from Samoa, Tonga and Vanuatu to address labour shortages in the horticulture industry.

* Venezuela will receive 6.2 million doses of vaccines through the COVAX initiative "in the coming days," President Nicolas Maduro has said.

* Pfizer and Moderna have raised the prices of their vaccines in their latest European Union supply contracts, the Financial Times reported.

* Troops from Russia and Uzbekistan began joint military drills on Monday near the Afghan border amid fears in both countries over a worsening security situation in Afghanistan that could spill over into Central Asia.

* President Ashraf Ghani on Monday blamed Aghanistan's fast-deteriorating security situation on a "sudden" decision by the United States to withdraw its troops, but said his government had a plan to bring conditions under control within six months.
