* The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on Sunday (June 7) reported 1,920,904 cases of new coronavirus, an increase of 29,214 cases from its previous count, and said COVID-19 deaths in the United States had risen by 709 to 109,901.
* Brazil registered 37,312 total coronavirus deaths while overall cases in the country reached 685,427, according to data from the health ministry on Sunday. Unlike in the previous day, the government released cumulative figures on Sunday and not a tally of deaths and new infections in the last 24 hours. Based on Sunday's data, Brazil registered 1,382 new deaths and 12,581 new cases in the last 24 hours.
* Mexico's health ministry reported on Sunday 3,484 new confirmed cases of coronavirus infections and 188 additional fatalities, bringing the total in the country to 117,103 cases and 13,699 deaths.
* France's coronavirus death toll, the fifth-highest in the world, rose by 13 on Sunday to 29,155, the government said. The number of people in hospital intensive care units fell by six to 1,053, a smaller decrease than the previous day but extending a steady drop in critical cases since a peak of over 7,000 in early April, according to data posted on a government website. The total number of people being treated in hospital for COVID-19 fell by 18 to 12,461. The number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 rose by 343 to 153,997.
* The number of deaths from the novel coronavirus in Russia has risen to 5,971, the country's coronavirus response centre said on Monday, after it reported 112 fatalities in the last 24 hours. It reported 8,985 new infections of the virus, taking the nationwide case tally to 476,658.
* Japan will stop short of offering blanket coronavirus tests, and instead target the vulnerable and those most at risk in seeking to prevent a second wave of infections, the minister in charge of policies to combat the health crisis said. Japan so far has avoided the spike in infections seen in countries like the United States and Italy. It now has about 17,200 infections with around 900 deaths, far lower than the 1.9 million cases and more than 110,000 deaths in the United States.
* Thailand confirmed seven new coronavirus infections and no new deaths on Monday, with the new cases found in quarantine, taking the country to two weeks without a local transmission. The total number of confirmed cases stands at 3,119, with 58 deaths.
* The total number of Canadians killed by the coronavirus edged up by 0.9% to 7,773 from 7,703 on Saturday, the public health agency said on Sunday, further evidence that the worst of the pandemic has passed. In a statement the agency said the total number of cases rose to 95,057 from 94,335. Canada's 10 provinces have all started to reopen their economies and relax restrictions on social gatherings.
* Denmark on Monday lifted the limit on public gatherings to 50 people from 10 as it relaxes measures to curb the spread of the coronavirus, the ministry of health said. The restrictions on public gatherings were put in place on March 17.
* The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Germany increased by 214 to 184,193, data from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) for infectious diseases showed on Monday. The death toll rose by 6 to 8,674, the tally showed.
* Confirmed cases of coronavirus infection in Panama reached 16,425 on Sunday, up 421 from the previous day, and deaths climbed by seven to 393, the health ministry said. Director of Epidemiology Lourdes Moreno gave the Central American country's latest data at a news conference.
* Pakistan has recorded more than 100,000 coronavirus infections, officials statistics showed on Monday and the rise in daily infections has prompted authorities to begin strict enforcement of government safety measures. The south Asian nation, which has registered 2,067 deaths and 103,671 infections of the novel coronavirus, lifted its lockdown last month but promulgated protocols for the reopening of markets, industries and public transport - including mandatory wearing of masks and social distancing.
* The number of coronavirus cases in Saudi Arabia exceeded 100,000 on Sunday following a rise in new infections over the past ten days. The Saudi Ministry of Health reported 3,045 new cases on Sunday, taking the total to 101,914, with 712 deaths. The number of new daily cases exceeded 3,000 for the first time on Saturday.
* Guatemalan President Alejandro Giammattei said on Sunday that 18 employees at his office and on his security detail have tested positive for the novel coronavirus, so he will work remotely and the presidential offices will be disinfected. The Central American country has registered 7,055 confirmed cases of coronavirus and 252 fatalities from the pandemic.
* Honduras has extended a curfew by one week through June 14 in order to contain the spread of the coronavirus pandemic, security ministry spokesman Jair Meza said on Sunday. Meza made the announcement on national television even as the Central American country is about to begin the gradual re-opening of its economy on Monday.
* The center of Tropical Storm Cristobal has made landfall along the coast of southeast Louisiana between the mouth of the Mississippi River and Grand Isle, the US National Hurricane Center said in its latest advisory. Cristobal is located about 50 miles (80 km) south-southeast of New Orleans, with maximum sustained winds of 50 mph (85 kph), the Miami-based weather forecaster added.
* Turkey may expand its cooperation with Libya's internationally recognised government with new deals on energy and construction once the country's conflict is over, presidential spokesman Ibrahim Kalin was quoted as saying on Sunday. Turkey backs Fayez al Serraj's Government of National Accord (GNA) and has provided it with military support after signing a cooperation accord last year. The two also signed a maritime demarcation agreement in the eastern Mediterranean that Greece and other regional actors have rejected.
