Nghe An and Lao localities promote cooperation in border protection and crime prevention

The border guard command of Vietnam’s north-central province of Nghe An held talks on July 22 with the military commands and public security forces of the three Lao provinces of Houaphanh, Xiangkhouang, Bolikhamsay.

At the conference, the two sides signed a memorandum of understanding on enhancing cooperation in ensuring border security and fighting crimes, in addition to building a border of peace, friendship, cooperation and development.

Nghe An and the above three Lao provinces share a land border of 468 kilometres, accounting for one-quarter of the Vietnam-Laos border. It is a highly important region in terms of politics, economy, culture, society, defence and security to both countries.

The two sides have regularly held joint patrols and meetings and exchanges to promptly deal with incidents arising along the border.

Nghe An Province has signed agreements on twin villages and twin border guard stations with three Lao provinces, to promote economic cooperation, coordinate in protecting sovereignty and border security, and support each other when faced with difficulties.
