Acting President Vo Thi Anh Xuan attended a ceremony in the northern mountainous province of Dien Bien on April 22 to officially launch the 2024 National Humanitarian Month, themed “Humanitarian Journey - Giving and receiving love”.

The launch ceremony was held by the Vietnam Red Cross Society and the Dien Bien Provincial People’s Committee.

Addressing the ceremony, Acting President Vo Thi Anh Xuan affirmed that over the past years, humanitarian and charitable activities implemented by the Vietnam Red Cross Society have achieved many practical results, contributing to raising social awareness, as well as promoting and spreading the spirit of "mutual assistance” among people of all walks of life.

The Acting President asked the Vietnam Red Cross Society to uphold the achieved results and continue to innovate the methods of operation for movements.

She also noted that Party Committees and authorities at all levels should continue to thoroughly grasp and implement the Party and State's guidelines and policies on the activities of the Vietnam Red Cross Society and humanitarian work.

Acting President Xuan expressed her hope that agencies, organisations, benefactors at home and abroad and people from all walks of life will continue to support and accompany the Vietnam Red Cross Society in helping people who are living in difficult circumstances more effectively, contributing to building a united, compassionate, progressive and civilised social community.

On this occasion, Acting President Vo Thi Anh Xuan awarded 300 scholarships to ethnic minority students who overcame difficulties to gain outstanding achievements in Dien Bien Province.

During the 2024 National Humanitarian Month starting from May 1-31, the Vietnam Red Cross Society sets a target of assisting 100,000 humanitarian addresses (including both individuals and groups).
