Participants at the opening ceremony enjoyed an art programme themed ‘The Circle of Friends’ and a drum performance entitled ‘Aspiration to Shine’ by the art troupe of the Vietnam People's Police Academy.
In his opening speech, General Luong Tam Quang, Politburo member and Minister of Public Security, stated that the tournament aims to honour the solidarity of police around the world and enhance the position of police-taekwondo practitioners in ensuring the health, safety and happiness of people.
The four-day event is jointly held by the Ministry of Public Security, the Vietnam Public Security Forces Sports Association, and the World Police Taekwondo Federation.
It has drawn 2,500 participants, including officials, coaches, and athletes from 29 countries and territories inside and outside Asia, including 70 members from the Vietnam People's Public Security delegation.
The competition features two main categories: the Asian Police Taekwondo Championship, and the Asian Police Taekwondo Festival.
There are 16 weight categories in the sparring events, along with five for poomsae, and five for performance events.
