Basilashvili shocks del Potro in China Open final

Georgia's unseeded Nikoloz Basilashvili caused a major upset in Beijing on Sunday night, defeating an out-of-sorts Juan Martin del Potro 6-4, 6-4 to claim the 2018 ATP China Open title.

In the women’s singles event, World No. 2 Caroline Wozniacki captured her second China Open title the same day with a commanding straight set victory of 6-3, 6-3 over No. 20 Anastasija Sevastova.

* Russian shooter Grigorii Shamakov clinched the first gold medal of the Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympics on Sunday by winning the 10m boys' air rifle event. Shamakov claimed gold with a score of 249.2 points. Shamakov after he claimed gold with a score of 249.2 points.

* Mo Farah scored a stunning Chicago Marathon victory as he won in an unofficial two hours five minutes and 11 seconds in only his third race over the distance on Sunday. After biding his time for much of the race, the British four-time Olympic track champion surged to the lead in the final four miles and broke Ethiopian Mosinet Geremew to shatter the European marathon record of 2:05:48.

* Denmark's Lucas Bjerregaard fired a steady five-under 67 in the final round at St Andrews on Sunday to win the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. It was a second European Tour crown for Bjerregaard, who won last year's Portugal Masters.

* Russian qualifier Daniil Medvedev stunned home favourite Kei Nishikori in Tokyo on Sunday, winning the final of the Japan Open 6-2 6-4 in just over one hour.

* MotoGP champion Marc Marquez snatched the lead from Andrea Dovizioso at the death to win the inaugural Thailand Grand Prix on Sunday and take a huge stride toward a third successive title. After fierce wheel-to-wheel racing in the closing laps at Buriram, the Honda-riding Spaniard nosed in front at the last corner and edged the Italian by 0.115 seconds in a thrilling duel.

* Plans for a Vietnamese Grand Prix in 2020 look feasible, according to Formula One race director Charlie Whiting who visited the proposed site in Hanoi last week. Whiting told reporters at Sunday's Japanese Grand Prix that the location for a street circuit had been identified, to the west of the capital and some 12km from the city centre, even if building work had yet to start.

* World Cup winner Kylian Mbappe scored four goals in 14 second-half minutes to lead Paris St Germain to a 5-0 win over Olympique Lyonnais on Sunday as they became the first team in Ligue 1 history to win their first nine games. PSG, who were flattered by the scoreline, took their goal tally to 32 as they moved eight points clear at the top after a bruising match where both teams finished the first half with 10 men.

* Napoli's Adam Ounas and Lorenzo Insigne scored superb goals to secure a 2-0 win over Sassuolo which moved their second-placed side six points behind Juventus in Serie A on Sunday. Napoli have 18 points from eight games - six wins and two defeats - and trail Juventus, who have 24 after maintaining a 100% record with a 2-0 win at Udinese on Saturday.

* Former Chelsea and England captain John Terry has decided to call time on his playing career after 23 years in the game. The central defender has been without a club since leaving Championship (second-tier) side Aston Villa following their playoff defeat by Fulham at Wembley Stadium last season.
