Tax revenue collected by customs authorities up 20.2% in January

Import and export tax revenues collected by customs agencies in January were estimated at VND21.9 trillion (US$1 billion), up 20.2% compared with the same month in 2014.

According to the General Department of Customs, the rise in tax revenues came as a result of a 13.5% increase in taxable imports such as petrol, cars and machinery as well as a 44% rise in crude oil exports.

The General Department of Customs has been assigned to collect VND260 trillion (US$12.2 billion) in 2015, up 2.4% against the figure of 2014.

In January, customs agencies identified and reprimanded more than 1,400 cases of smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeiting, seizing goods worth nearly VND12.6 billion (US$592,200) and depositing more than VND11.1 billion (US$521,700) to the State budget.
