The event was attended by Politburo member and Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Hoang Trung Hai, Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh and hundreds of outstanding entrepreneurs of the capital city.

In her remarks, Vice President Thinh spoke highly of the significant achievements made by Hanoi’s enterprises and businesspersons as well as the measures being implemented by the city to remove difficulties for businesses.

Hanoi needs to continue providing favourable conditions for startup businesses and strive to become the country’s leading locality in terms of creating a convenient investment environment, Thinh said, asking the capital’s business community to boost production and contributions to social security programmes, thus developing Hanoi to become the centre of the nation.

On the occasion, Hanoi’s four outstanding collectives were presented with the second-class and third-class Labour Orders from the State President, while eight collective and eight individuals were honoured with emulation flags and certificates of merit from the Prime Minister. The municipal People’s Committee also presented emulation flags to 20 businesses and certificates of merit to 66 others.

At the ceremony, the city launched the 2016 Month for the Poor. Nearly 100 units and enterprises donated over VND15.69 billion (US$706,050) to the municipal fund for the poor.

The business community has contributed to over 60% of the municipal budget, creating jobs for more than 147,000 workers and playing a key role in the capital city’s construction and development cause. Hanoi is targeting an additional 200,000 newly established businesses operating effectively by 2020.

On the same day, ceremonies were also held in the provinces of Ha Giang, Ca Mau, Lang Son, Cao Bang, Quang Nam and Thua Thien-Hue to honour outstanding businesses and businesspersons for their significant contributions to local socio-economic development.
