The event saw the participation of 350 display booths, with Hung Yen running over 100 kiosks, one fifth of which showcased the longan, renowned as a speciality which was once used as a tribute to the emperors of the past.
According to the organisers, the festival is an opportunity for consumers to recognise and enjoy authentic longan grown in Hung Yen.
The province currently has more than 4,000 hectares of longan, concentrating mainly in Khoai Chau, Kim Dong, Tien Lu districts and the city of Hung Yen, with annual output reaching 40,000 tonnes.
Recently, good national agricultural practices, known as VietGap, have been applied to a number of growing areas, helping to enhance the quality of the fruit for domestic consumption and export, and increase the income of farmers.
Hung Yen Deputy Chairman Nguyen Minh Quang stated that the provincial agriculture department is working with longan growers to assist them in expanding the areas where VietGap is used.
Meanwhile the Department of Industry and Trade is undertaking trade promotion events to introduce the Hung Yen longan to the world market.
The festival will last until August 14.
