The event is being attended by over 200 delegates, including the Chinese Ambassador to Vietnam, representatives from the Vietnamese Foreign Ministry and the Vietnam Consulate General in Kunming, the leaders of the four Vietnamese localities, and businesses which are interested in fostering investment, trade and transportation cooperation with Yunnan province.

In his opening remark, Chairman of the Hai Phong People’s Committee, Nguyen Van Tung, emphasised that the conference is among the initiatives aimed at creating a premise for friendly exchange and cooperation activities between the five relevant localities in particular, and between the two countries as a whole, especially in the field of economy.

Under the theme of “Promoting cooperation for mutual development”, the three-day conference will focus on discussing the issues of transportation connectivity and logistic developmental cooperation; trade and investment cooperation; tourism, educational and health cooperation; and monetary and insurance cooperation.

Also, the conference will witness the signing of cooperation documents between businesses and associations of Vietnam and China, concerning the fields of money-finance, e-commerce and tourism, with the air route connecting Hai Phong and Kunming, and the Hai Phong-Hanoi-Lao Cai-Kunming high-speed train route being among the biggest anticipations.

These will be the most practical actions in the realisation of the outcomes of the recent talks between Vietnamese General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and Chinese General Secretary and President Xi Jinping.

During the meeting, delegates will evaluate the implementation of the results achieved, difficulties and obstacles in carrying out the contents of the memorandum of understanding signed at the seventh conference.

On that basis, the conference will agree on the effective and practical cooperation contents, whilst working out concrete directions and appropriate solutions to further promote cooperation among the provinces and cities, towards constructing the Kunming-Lao Cai-Hanoi-Hai Phong-Quang Ninh economic corridor to develop into a model of effective cooperation between Vietnam and China.
