Vietnam, Russia boost cooperation in customs

General Director of the General Department of Vietnam Customs, Nguyen Van Can, held talks with Head of the Federal Customs Service of Russia, Vladimir Bulavin, in Russia’s capital city of Moscow on September 9, within the framework of bilateral cooperation between the two agencies.

The bilateral talks aimed to enhance the effective and substantive implementation of commitments to promote trade cooperation and trade facilitation under the Vietnam - Eurasian Economic Union Free Trade Agreement which was signed and took effect on October 5, 2016.

The delegates reviewed the results in the bilateral cooperation between the General Department of Vietnam Customs and the Federal Customs Service of Russia under the Agreement on cooperation and administrative assistance in the field of customs that was signed by the two Governments in 2010.

At the talks, leaders of the two agencies appreciated their efforts in fulfilling the commitments on trade facilitation and customs management in recent times.

They also agreed to accelerate the connection of the information technology system and establish a secure data transmission channel between the two sides in the second phase which will start from October 5.

The General Director of the General Department of Vietnam Customs affirmed Vietnam’s efforts in working with the central customs agencies in the EAEU countries to boost the implementation of Vietnam - EAEU FTA as well as promote import-export activities.

The Vietnamese official affirmed that Vietnam always makes efforts to create a fair, healthy and legal business environment for businesses as well as being willing to coordinate with customs agencies around the world, including from the Russia, to prevent smuggling and trade fraud.

The host also agreed to support the General Department of Vietnam Customs in staff training.

After the talks, the General Director of the General Department of Vietnam Customs and the Head of the Federal Customs Service of Russia signed a working minutes and a joint cooperation plan in combating customs violations for 2019-2023 period.
