Domestic gold prices on August 17 morning dropped by about VND600,000 (US$26) per tael from last week’s closing prices.

The Saigon Jewellery Company (SJC) listed a tael of the precious metal in Hanoi at VND53.95 million and VND55.62 for purchase and sale respectively, down VND230,000 and VND580 million from last Friday.

At Phu Quy Jewellery, gold fell by VND600,000 and VND300,000 to trade at VND54.2 million and VND56 million per tael for purchase and sale respectively.

Last week, gold prices in both Vietnam and the world witnessed a sharp decline, with domestic prices sliding by VND4 million per tael while global prices ended nine consecutive weeks of incessant increase and fell by 4.5%.
