On August 25, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) held a conference in Dong Hoi City, Quang Binh Province, which debated the training and development of human resources for agriculture and rural development in the Central and Central Highlands regions, for sustainable agricultural and rural development.

According to the MARD, the Central region and Central Highlands play a particularly significant strategic role in the economy, politics, culture, society, environment, national defence, security and foreign affairs.

Speaking at the conference, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan said, that training and promoting human resources for agriculture and rural development is of great importance, however, the recruitment of human resources in this field is facing numerous difficulties with declines in both quantity and quality.

The minister hoped that the conference would receive several new ideas and approaches, to help solve the problem of human resources in agriculture in the near future.

Hoan also noted that the development of human resources in agriculture must be aligned with local advantages and plans on the socio-economic development of the localities towards sustainability and high competitiveness.

The Central region now has 44 higher education institutions, while the Central Highlands has nine higher education institutions which offer various majors, including agriculture.
