With a total investment of VND999.9 billion (US$44 million), the modern facilities of a standard dock capable of receiving 45,000 DWT ships are scheduled to be constructed.

The dock is expected to help ensure infrastructure for economic development in the region, meet the increasing demand of cargos, attract further investment in the Vung Ang Economic Zone, stimulate socio-economic growth for Ha Tinh province and the central region, as well as serve the import, export, shipping, trade and co-operation between Vietnam and Laos and the north-eastern region of Thailand.

The Vung Ang Port plays an important role in expanding trade as well as facilitating import and export activities of not only Ha Tinh province but also the extended outlying region, Laos and the north-eastern region of Thailand. The first and second docks of the Vung Ang Port have been in operation since 2001 and 2010 respectively.
