The Artillery-Missile Command was established from the Artillery Corps as part of a re-organisation of the military to better meet the requirements of national defence.

Founded in 1946, the Artillery Corps has undergone training and achieved numerous military feats throughout the nation’s resistance wars. It provides the main firepower of the army and the primary ground firepower of the Vietnamese armed forces.

To meet higher requirements, the Artillery-Missile Command is organised to be leaner, stronger, and more modern, with expanded duties and equipped with advanced weapons and vehicles.

Speaking at the ceremony, General Nguyen Tan Cuong asked the Artillery-Missile Command to thoroughly grasp resolutions and conclusions on military and defence tasks, and to enhance awareness and sense of responsibility of all officers and soldiers regarding national defence in the new situation.

The chief of the General Staff expressed his confidence that, with a tradition of nearly 80 years, the officers and soldiers of the Artillery-Missile Command will successfully fulfil all assigned task with new opportunities, spirit, and determination.
