Deputy PM Le Van Thanh assigned as Chairman of Mekong Delta Coordinating Council

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has signed Decision No.1054/QD-TTg on the 28-member Mekong Delta Coordinating Council for the 2021-2025 period, with Deputy PM Le Van assigned as Chairman of the Council.

The four Vice Chairmen of the Council include Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung (permanent Vice Chairman), Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Tran Hong Ha, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan, and Minister of Transport Nguyen Van The.

Council members include Deputy Ministers of Planning and Investment, Finance, Construction, Industry and Trade, Science and Technology, Health, Education and Training; Vice Chairman of Government Office; Chairmen of the People's Committees of 13 provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta (Long An, Tien Giang, Ben Tre, Tra Vinh, Vinh Long, Can Tho, Hau Giang, Soc Trang, An Giang, Dong Thap, Kien Giang, Bac Lieu, and Ca Mau); Rector of Can Tho University; and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Southern Food Corporation.

The Council, established in June 2020, is responsible for putting forward mechanisms, policies, strategies, plans, projects, programs and tasks for the whole region in the direction of ensuring sustainable and climate-resilient development of the Mekong Delta to the PM.

It assists the PM in directing and overseeing the implementation of the regional master plan, strategies, mechanisms, policies, projects and programmes.

The Council is assigned to approve plans on the Mekong Delta sustainable development and organise regional investment, trade, tourism promotion events.
