In the condolence book, Deputy Prime Minister Le Tien Chau wrote: “The State and people of Viet Nam are deeply saddened by the passing of former Prime Minister Fukuda Yasuo, a great and close friend of the State and people of Viet Nam. On behalf of the Government and people of Viet Nam, I would like to extend our deepest condolences to the Government and people of Japan and the family of Fukuda Yasuo. His passing is not only a great loss to Japan, but also to the international community, including Viet Nam. The special affection and support that he showed towards Viet Nam and its people are an invaluable asset to the relationship between our two countries."

“Notably, during his tenure as Prime Minister, he hosted a State visit to Japan by President Nguyen Minh Triet in 2007, when the two sides agreed to issue a Joint Statement on further deepening Viet Nam-Japan relations. This opened up numerous opportunities and laid a solid foundation for a new phase in the development of friendly and cooperative ties between the two countries in the fields of economics, culture and people-to-people exchanges."

“The Government and people of Viet Nam will always remember and cherish the special affection and significant contributions of the late Prime Minister. As close friends guided by the spirit of ‘affection, sincerity and trust’, we will overcome this profound grief and loss together, carry forward the path forged by the late Prime Minister Fukuda Yasuo, and further strengthen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Viet Nam and Japan.”

Deputy Prime Minister Le Tien Chau expressed his appreciation and gratitude for the former Prime Minister's tireless contributions to consolidating and strengthening relations between Viet Nam and Japan. He voiced his hope that the governments and people of both countries would continue along the path carefully nurtured by the late Prime Minister Fukuda Yasuo, further advancing bilateral relations in an increasingly positive, effective and sustainable manner.

Fukuda Yasuo was born in 1936 in Gunma Prefecture and served as Prime Minister of Japan from September 2007 to September 2008. After leaving office, he continued his efforts to strengthen relations between Japan and Viet Nam. Until his passing, he was known for serving as Supreme Adviser to the Viet Nam Festival at Yoyogi Park, an event symbolising the “Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity in Asia and the World” between Viet Nam and Japan.
