Deputy PMs join groundbreaking ceremonies for boarding schools in border communes

Simultaneous groundbreaking ceremonies for inter-level boarding schools in land border communes took place across 17 provinces and cities nationwide on November 9, with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attending the main venue in Thanh Hoa province, and the Deputy Prime Ministers joining such events in other localities.

In the central province of Ha Tinh, Permanent Deputy PM Nguyen Hoa Binh attended the groundbreaking of the Son Kim 1 Primary and Junior Secondary Boarding School, comprising 40 classrooms for 1,330 students and a total investment of around 140 billion VND.

In the Mekong Delta province of An Giang, Deputy PM Bui Thanh Son attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the Vinh Gia Primary and Junior Secondary Boarding School (currently Luong An Tra Junior Secondary School), which will have 45 classrooms for 1,500 students, with total investment exceeding 186 billion VND (7.06 million USD), scheduled for completion in August 2026.

On the same day, the province also launched two similar projects in Giang Thanh and Khanh An communes. They are scheduled to complete by August 2026.

In central Lam Dong province, Deputy PM Ho Duc Phoc marked the start of work on the Thuan An Primary and Junior Secondary Boarding School, covering nearly 5 hectares with a total investment of over 225 billion VND. The school will accommodate around 1,050 students in 30 classes and is set for completion by August next year. The province also commenced construction of a similar facility in Quang Truc commune.

In northern Tuyen Quang province, Deputy PM Nguyen Chi Dung was present at the ground-breaking of five inter-level boarding schools in border communes, with a total investment exceeding 1.145 trillion VND. Among them, the Minh Tan School is the largest, with 45 classrooms for 1,500 students, built on over 4 hectares and costing around 251 billion VND. The projects are due for completion before August 30, 2026. Earlier, in August, Tuyen Quang launched the Thanh Thuy Primary and Junior Secondary Boarding School project worth over 211 billion VND.

In the central province of Dak Lak, Deputy PM Mai Van Chinh attended the ceremony for the Ia Rve inter-level boarding school, which will be built at a total cost of 127.8 billion VND to serve 1,125 students. Construction is expected to be completed by next August.

Work on two other schools in Ia Lop and Buon Don communes, worth over 263.6 billion VND in total, were also launched the same day.

In the northern province of Dien Bien, Deputy PM Le Thanh Long attended the groundbreaking of the Thanh Nua Primary and Junior Secondary Boarding School, covering 5.39 hectares and accommodating about 1,050 students, with a total investment of 224.4 billion VND.

Five other schools in Sin Thau, Nam Ke, Quang Lam, Thanh Yen, and Muong Nha communes also began construction the same morning, with total funding exceeding 1.3 trillion VND. Earlier, on November 2, the province had started work on three other boarding schools.

In northern Lang Son province, Deputy PM Tran Hong Ha attended the ceremony for the Khuat Xa inter-level boarding school, the first of 11 similar schools to be built in the province’s border areas. The project will have 36 classrooms for 1,260 students on nearly 5 hectares, with investment of 265 billion VND.

In northern Lao Cai province, Deputy PM Pham Thi Thanh Tra joined the groundbreaking of four inter-level boarding schools in the border communes of A Mu Sung, Y Ty, Muong Khuong and Pha Long. Each will include 28 to 36 classrooms, boarding facilities for students, and staff housing. The total investment for the four institutions is 945 billion VND, sourced from central and local budgets and other lawful funds. Construction is expected to be completed before August 30, 2026.

Another five schools will be built in Lao Cai next year and completed in 2027, with total funding of nearly 1.48 trillion VND.

The 2025 programme to build 100 inter-level boarding schools in border communes, with total investment of nearly 20 trillion VND, is a key step to implement the Party and Government’s policy on education development in disadvantaged areas, contributing to social welfare, socio-economic development, and national defence and security in border regions.

The simultaneous launch of 72 school projects in a single day, with the participation of leaders of the Governments, ministries, and local authorities, reflects the strong coordination and determination across the political system to support students in border areas. Earlier, construction has already begun on 28 schools in some localities since July.

As many as 248 inter-level primary and junior secondary boarding schools in 248 land border communes will be built during 2025–2028.
