An investment certificate to this effect was granted to Binh Son Refining and Petrochemical Co (BSR) on December 24 - the management unit of the refinery - to certify the expansion and upgrade of the Dung Quat Refinery.
The expanded area covers over 300 hectares in Binh Thuan and Binh Tri communes, Binh Son district including 108 hectares of land and 198 hectares of sea surface.
Chairman of the Quang Ngai provincial People's Committee Le Viet Chu asked the BRS to promptly carry out the expansion project to contribute to ensuring the national energy security and promoting the province's economy.
The construction of Dung Quat Refinery began in 2005 on an area of around 810 hectares with a total investment of over US$3 billion. The refinery was put into operation in 2010 which meets about 30% of the national demand for petrol.
