Participants included ambassadors, officials, and staff from the embassies of ASEAN member countries, Timor Leste, and the association’s partners in Thailand. Vietnamese Ambassador to Thailand Pham Viet Hung joined the event.

In his opening remarks, Thailand’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Maris Sangiampongsa noted that ASEAN was established 58 years ago and expressed gratitude for the cooperation and support that member countries and partners have extended to the association. Minister Maris Sangiampongsa expressed the hope that the “ASEAN Family Run” — held to mark the 58th anniversary of ASEAN’s founding — would contribute to enhancing the association’s friendship and cooperation and advancing the ASEAN Community.

He also expressed his hope that, with determination and effort, Timor Leste would become an official ASEAN member this year.

Following the ASEAN flag-raising ceremony, ambassadors, officials, and staff from the embassies of ASEAN member countries and the association’s partners took part in a 2.5 km run at Lumpini Park in Bangkok, Thailand.

Speaking to Nhan Dan Newspaper’s resident correspondent in Thailand, Ambassador Pham Viet Hung highly appreciated the meaningful initiative of the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs in organising the “ASEAN Family Run” to celebrate ASEAN’s 58th anniversary. According to Ambassador Pham Viet Hung, this was not only a sporting activity but also an occasion for diplomats and their families from ASEAN member countries to demonstrate solidarity, cohesion, and sharing within the ASEAN family.

Ambassador Pham Viet Hung stressed that 2025 marks the 30th anniversary of Viet Nam’s official accession to ASEAN, a journey of integration marked by great effort and responsibility.

The event also helped convey a message of a dynamic, close-knit, and sustainable ASEAN, where friendship and cooperation are nurtured not only at the negotiating table but also in daily life.

Ambassador Pham Viet Hung expressed his belief that, with solidarity and shared determination, ASEAN member countries will continue making positive contributions to an ASEAN that is increasingly cohesive and developed, for the peace, stability, and common prosperity of the entire region.
