Former PM Vo Van Kiet commemorated in Vinh Long province

Leaders of the southern province of Vinh Long, the hometown of former Prime Minister Vo Van Kiet, offered incense at a memorial dedicated to the late PM on June 18.

The commemoration on the 10th anniversary of his passing was attended by head of the Central Commission for Education and Communications Vo Van Thuong and Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh.

After a minute of silence, central and provincial leaders, as well as the former PM’s relatives and local residents, took turns to offer incense and flowers to the brilliant leader who hailed from Vinh Long province.

Vo Van Kiet, Prime Minister of Vietnam from 1991 to 1997, is known as the architect of Vietnam’s economic transformation during the 1990s. He passed away in 2008 at the age of 86.

According to local officials, the memorial has welcomed more than 470,000 visitors since it opened to the public nearly six years ago.
