The forum was attended by experts, researchers, rice industry businesses, and 120 farmers from Can Tho and the provinces of Hau Giang, Soc Trang, and Kien Giang.

According to experts, to implement the one-million-hectare high-quality rice project, farmers need to join cooperatives and reorganise production towards partnerships to increase profits.

Moreover, there needs to be participation from purchasing enterprises, input suppliers and mechanisation businesses, thereby forming large-scale, closed production chains from sowing and harvesting to purchasing in order to improve profitability.

According to the National Agricultural Extension Centre, to effectively implement the one-million-hectare high-quality rice project in 2025, the centre will enhance the capacity of agricultural extension officers and farmers through training courses on high-quality, emission-reducing rice cultivation techniques.

The centre will establish pilot models to evaluate the effectiveness of advanced production processes, water management and optimal fertiliser use, while implementing communication programmes to raise community awareness about sustainable rice production.

Furthermore, the centre will strengthen public-private cooperation and promote links between businesses, cooperatives and farmers to develop export-standard raw material areas.

Additionally, the centre will promote the application of greenhouse gas emission measurement technology to serve carbon credit certification, thus opening opportunities to access international carbon credit markets.
