Today, I am delighted to be with General Secretary and President Xi Jinping to meet Chinese and Vietnamese friends and comrades who have made many contributions to the Vietnam-China friendship on the occasion of the historic visit to Vietnam by Comrade Xi Jinping, Madam Peng Liyuan and the high-ranking Chinese delegation.
I am especially moved to meet Chinese scholars, intellectuals, cadres and relatives of Chinese comrades who helped Vietnam during the struggle for national independence. I also feel full of joy and confidence when meeting young people from both countries who aspire to follow in the footsteps of previous generations, bringing vitality and a bright future to Vietnam-China relations. I want to extend my cordial greetings, sincere regards, warm affection and best wishes to all of you.
As we all know, the friendship between Vietnam and China is rooted in good traditions, and our two peoples have a close relationship, which is beautifully described in a song by the famous Vietnamese musician Do Nhuan, “We bathe in the same river, I look over there, you look over here. Every day, we hear the rooster crow together.”
Under the leadership of the two Communist Parties, the people of both countries have provided valuable support and assistance to each other in the past struggles for national independence and today’s cause of building socialism. The Vietnamese Party, State and people always remember and highly appreciate the strong and great support of the Chinese Party, State and people for Vietnam.
This visit to Vietnam by General Secretary and President Xi Jinping and his spouse is highly significant in that it coincides with the 15th anniversary of the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership establishment between the two countries. In recent years, the relationship between the two Parties, countries and peoples has witnessed many important, profound and comprehensive developments, as demonstrated by enhanced mutual understanding and trust. The two countries have become each other’s leading economic partners. Defence and security cooperation has become one of the pillars of our relations, while cooperation in other fields and people-to-people exchanges are constantly expanding.
On this occasion, I would like to reiterate General Secretary and President Xi Jinping’s profound and meaningful statement at the 15th Vietnam-China Youth Friendship Meeting from my visit to China in April 2015. That is “Relations between countries lie in the intimacy of the people, which in turn comes from the young generation”. This is also the message and spirit of today's meeting between me, Comrade Xi Jinping and his wife with representatives of intellectuals and the young generation of the two countries.

On the occasion of this meeting, I am pleased to announce the visit to Vietnam by General Secretary and President Xi Jinping, his wife and the high-ranking Chinese delegation has been very successful. On the foundation of the traditional friendship and the achievements of the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership in recent years, the two Parties and countries have agreed to continue deepening and elevating the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, building a Vietnam-China community with a shared future that carries strategic significance for the happiness of both countries’ people, as well as for the cause of peace and progress of mankind.
The two sides reached many important common perceptions. The joint statement between the two countries sets out specific and comprehensive directions, along with the signed cooperation documents in various fields, to create a framework and lay important foundations for the continued development of cooperative relations between the two Parties, countries and peoples in the new period, bringing substantive benefits to both countries’ people.
One of the most fundamental directions of cooperation in Vietnam-China relations, as affirmed in the joint statement, is to consolidate a stronger social foundation. The two peoples’ strong and sincere age-old aspirations for friendship, peace, cooperation and development are a source of great strength and a solid basis for a belief in the bright future of the brotherly and neighbouring countries both on the path of building socialism.
I welcome and highly appreciate the sentiments and positive and significant contributions of both countries’ peoples, in which intellectuals and young people play a pivotal role. I believe and hope that both countries’ intellectuals and young people will continue making active contributions to the common efforts to develop a strong, stable, long-term and effective Vietnam-China relationship, following the spirit of President Ho Chi Minh’s words that were highly welcomed and shared by Chairman Mao Zedong, that “The friendship between Vietnam and China is as profound as both comrades and brothers.”
I wish and strongly believe that under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, with General Secretary and President Xi Jinping at the core, and under the guiding role of Xi Jinping thought on socialism with Chinese characteristics for a new era, will build on victories of historic significance in the ten years of the new era to successfully implement the spirit of the 20th Congress of the Communist Party of China on building China into a strong, prosperous, democratic, culturally advanced and harmonious modern socialist power.
May the relationship between the two Parties, countries and peoples be forever green and eternally strong.
May General Secretary and President Xi Jinping, Madame Peng Liyuan and Chinese and Vietnamese comrades always be healthy, happy and successful.
