Hanoi Physical Training and Sports Festival kicks off

The opening ceremony of the 10th Capital Sports Festival took place at the Hanoi Athletics Palace in Nam Tu Liem District, Hanoi, on October 7, with impressive art performances and the participation of 5,500 athletes.

The event is among the diverse cultural and sports activities that are being organised in the capital city to celebrate the 68th anniversary of Hanoi's Liberation Day (October 10, 1954 – 2022).

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Chu Xuan Dung affirmed that along with the task of building and developing socio-economics and ensuring national defence and security, Hanoi city always cares developing cultural, physical training and sports activities.

In recent years, Hanoi city has always been one of the leading localities in the country in mass sports as well as high-achievement sports.

Impressively, at the 31st Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 31), Hanoi won 213 medals of all kinds, including 62 gold medals, accounting for more than 30% of the gold medals of the Vietnam’s sport delegation.

The festival features the participation of more than 7,000 athletes, representing 41 delegations from 30 districts, towns and cities, competing across 25 sports with 437 sets of medals.

Athletes will compete in groups of young people, teenagers, children, students, workers, armed forces, and the elderly.

The 10th Capital Sports Congress is an opportunity to review and evaluate the quality of the movement on developing the cause of physical training and sport at each grassroots level, in order to expand and improve the quality of the “All people take exercise following Uncle Ho's example” campaign, actively contributing to the development of human resources, improving spiritual life, enhancing health, and gradually perfecting, improving, and developing human resources in the capital and Vietnam in the 2011-2030 period.

The Hanoi Physical Training and Sports Festival will run until October 23.
