Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong made the statement during a meeting with the Executive Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee on September 23, on the occasion of the 77th anniversary of the Southern Resistance Day (September 23, 1945-2022).
This is the 15th time he has visited and worked with Ho Chi Minh City as Party General Secretary.
Speaking at the working session, the Party chief emphasised that, with the potentials and outstanding advantages of the country and its attractiveness and high international competition that have been tested in practice, the city needs to be determined to promote further innovate, strive harder, and better promote its role as the locomotive, the strongest development driving force for the Southeast region and the whole country.
Ho Chi Minh City should also further promote the restructuring of the economy in association with the renewal of the growth model; focus on prioritising resources to successfully implement its strategic breakthroughs and remove current bottlenecks in terms of institutions, infrastructure and human resources.

The work of institutionalising and concretising the policies and guidelines of the Party and laws of the State should be strengthened and improved in accordance with the specific situation and conditions of the city, the General Secretary noted.
He also underscored that the specific mechanisms and policies the Politburo and the 14th National Assembly have prioritised for the city need to be effectively applied to further improve the business investment environment, contributing to attracting and managing effectively all resources for development.
The Party General Secretary also urged the city to pay more attention to the construction and development of culture and society, as well as ensuring defence and security in accordance with the spirit of the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress and the Resolution of the 11th Party Congress of Ho Chi Minh City.

At the meeting, the Municipal Party Committee reported to the General Secretary on the implementation of the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress and the Resolution of the 11th City Party Congress.
The delegates also clearly stated the results that the city has achieved, the limitations that need to be overcome and solutions for the comprehensive development of the city.
On behalf of the Municipal Party Committee, Politburo member and Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Van Nen stated that the Party Committee had earnestly seriously received the profound instructions of the General Secretary, and committed to exerting every effort to promote the tradition of solidarity, dynamism and creativity, in order to better uphold the city’s leading role in the Southeast region.
