HCMC manager Doan Thi Kim Chi fielded the strongest lineup – including members of the national team: goalkeeper Dang Thi Kieu Trinh, Huynh Nhu and Chuong Thi Kieu – determined to at least draw with their opponents to secure the overall crown.

The opening minutes took place with opportunities going evenly to both sides.

It was not until the 38th minute that Hanoi 1 took the lead thanks to an opener by Nguyen Thi Minh Nguyet.

After the break, Hanoi 1 intensified attacks on the HCMC side, forcing goalkeeper Kieu Trinh to work hard to deny their attempts at goal.

Eight minutes after the hour mark, HCMC manager Kim Chi put substitutes Le Hoai Luong and Vo Thi Thuy Trinh on the field, which brought about a new source of strength and inspiration to the southern team.

The two substitutes worked harmoniously together to even the score in the 75th minute before making it 2-1 for HCMC six minutes later, with Luong and Trinh scoring one goal each.

Nguyen Thi Xuyen equalised the score for Hanoi 1 with an accurate header in injury time, however, shortage of time prevented the 2014 champions from doing anything more than conceding second place overall with 29 points, one point behind HCMC.
