From 9 am, the Jujitsu finals began. Viet Nam fielded athletes in several notable categories, including: men’s duo (Sai Cong Nguyen – Nguyen Anh Tung), women’s duo (Phung Thi Hong Ngoc – Nguyen Ngoc Bich), and four combat weight classes — men’s 62kg, men’s 77kg, women’s 52kg, and women’s 63kg.
In the women’s duo event, Phung Thi Hong Ngoc – Nguyen Ngoc Bich scored 48 points to win the bronze medal. Two Thai teams led with 51 and 48.5 points. This bronze marked Viet Nam’s first medal at SEA Games 33.
Viet Nam’s male athletes also delivered strong results. The duos Tran Huu Tuan – To Anh Minh and Sai Cong Nguyen – Nguyen Anh Tung each secured a bronze medal in the men’s duo event.
The fourth bronze medal came from Dang Dinh Tung in the men’s 77kg category after falling to a Thai opponent in the semifinals.
In total, Jujitsu contributed four bronze medals, marking the first achievements for the Vietnamese sports delegation at this year’s Games.
Beyond Jujitsu, other teams also enjoyed a positive start. In Taekwondo, athletes Nguyen Thi Kim Ha – Nguyen Trong Phuc delivered an impressive performance, defeating the Thai pair to reach the final of the standard mixed pair poomsae event. Viet Nam will face Singapore in the gold-medal match early this afternoon.
In swimming, Jeremie Luong and Tran Van Quoc both advanced to the finals of the men’s 100m freestyle, clocking 50.63 seconds and 50.85 seconds, respectively.
Swimmer Vo Thi My Tien also qualified for the final of the women’s 200m butterfly after finishing third in the qualifying round.
