“Marching Forward with Viet Nam” event officially relaunches

Building on the success of the nationwide walking programme “Cung Viet Nam Tien Buoc” (Marching Forward with Viet Nam) in 2025, the 2026 edition has officially relaunched with the message “10 billion green steps – For a sustainable Viet Nam,” aiming to champion regular exercise, green lifestyles, and a spirit of solidarity across communities.

On August 13, registration for the event officially opened at https://cungvietnamtienbuoc.nhandan.vn/. Participants can sign up, connect their health-tracking devices, and begin accumulating steps towards the programme’s collective goal.

According to the plan, at 6am on Sunday, August 30, 2026, the walking event will commence simultaneously across all 34 provinces and cities nationwide. This will be the programme’s second year, building upon the unprecedented milestones achieved in 2025.

The event is being organised to mark the 81st anniversary of the August Revolution, the 81st anniversary of the Traditional Day of the People’s Public Security Force (August 19, 1945–2026), and the 81st anniversary of the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam (September 2, 1945–2026).

The programme continues to uphold and advance the values of the nationwide movement to exercise and improve physical fitness following the example of great President Ho Chi Minh. It also seeks to strengthen the great national unity bloc and foster closer bonds between the People’s Public Security Force and the people.

Alongside its goal of championing physical fitness, this year’s programme amplifies its focus on green living, encouraging walking, reducing carbon emissions, and protecting the environment. Through these efforts, it aims to foster positive habits, improve both physical and mental well-being, and contribute to sustainable development goals.

A highlight of the programme will be the simultaneous participation of people nationwide in walking and accompanying activities, with the ambitious goal of setting a new Guinness World Record through a mass walking event or a simultaneous flag-saluting ceremony and singing of the National Anthem.

Through every step accumulated, the programme seeks to ignite a spirit of national pride, determination to move forward, and collective endeavour among Vietnamese people in the new era.

In 2025, the event saw enthusiastic responses across all 34 provinces and cities, with participation from 3,121 out of 3,321 communes, wards, and special zones. The programme drew 1,112,336 participants at venues nationwide.

Notably, 261,404,515 steps were recorded online. Combining both in-person and online participation, a total of 6 billion steps were accumulated nationwide.

These achievements lay a robust foundation for the programme to continue in 2026 on a larger scale and with a more ambitious target. Under the message “10 billion green steps – For a sustainable Viet Nam,” every step is intended not only to contribute to better health but also to become a tangible action towards building a greener lifestyle and strengthening community spirit.
