Despite losing points following the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026, head coach Kim Sang Sik and his players have maintained their place among the world’s top 100 national teams and remain second in Southeast Asia.
During the September 2026 FIFA Days international window, the Viet Nam national team competed in the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026, recording two wins and two defeats. The results saw the team lose 6.33 points compared with the previous ranking period, leaving them with 1,231.29 points.
However, the Viet Nam national team retained 99th place in the world.
At the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026, Viet Nam successively beat the Philippines 1-0, lost 0-2 to Thailand and defeated Pakistan 4-2 in the group stage. These results saw Kim Sang Sik’s side qualify for the third-place play-off, before losing 0-1 to Malaysia and finishing fourth in the tournament.
In Southeast Asia, Thailand remain the highest-ranked national team, climbing one place to 93rd in the world with 1,251.42 points.
Despite losing 0.85 points following their matches at the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026, Thailand have maintained their leading position in the region and are ranked six places above Viet Nam.
Meanwhile, Indonesia improved their ranking after winning the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026. The island nation gained 3.35 points, climbing two places to 116th in the world with 1,166.50 points.
Thus, the Viet Nam national team remain second in Southeast Asia, behind Thailand and ahead of Indonesia.
In the following positions, Malaysia are ranked 133rd in the world with 1,102.09 points, the Philippines are 136th and Singapore are 149th. They are followed respectively by Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos, Brunei Darussalam and Timor-Leste.
At the top of the FIFA World Ranking, Spain continue to hold the number-one position in the world. Argentina and France remain second and third, respectively.
Notably, Portugal have risen to fifth place, moving above Brazil and Morocco.
According to FIFA, since the 2026 World Cup, a total of 338 international matches have been played. The results of these matches have continued to bring changes in the points and rankings of many national teams.
For the Viet Nam national team, maintaining a place in the world’s top 100 provides a basis for continuing to pursue their objectives in the coming period.
According to the plan, Kim Sang Sik’s side will regroup during the November FIFA Days international window to compete in an international tournament organised by the Viet Nam Football Federation, thereby continuing to assess the squad and prepare for the AFC Asian Cup 2027 finals.
The next FIFA World Ranking is expected to be released on November 18, 2026.
