Also on the same day, a 23.7 km section of the Ho Chi Minh Highway, which runs through the Central Highlands province of Kon Tum opened to traffic.

The 553km-long project, from Tan Canh commune in Dak To district in Kon Tum to Chon Thanh town in Binh Phuoc was launched in 2012 with a total investment of VND19 trillion (US$871 million), of which VND13 trillion came from government bonds.

The roads will help boost regional socio-economic development, as well as contribute to national defence and security.
