On November 6, in Hanoi, the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy under the Ministry of Industry and Trade organised the Vietnam E-commerce and Digital Technology Application Forum 2024.
The forum aimed to promote the application of digital technology and e-commerce in the economy, supporting businesses in improving their competitiveness and developing sustainably.
According to Deputy Director of the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy Lai Viet Anh, Vietnam's e-commerce revenue in 2023 reached 20.5 billion USD, putting Vietnam in the group of countries with the highest e-commerce growth rate in the region. Currently, e-commerce is not only developing in urban areas but also expanding to remote areas thanks to the strong development of the delivery system.
In addition, many large technology corporations have invested in new fields in Vietnam, such as electronics, semiconductor chips, R&D, AI, etc. Cashless payments are also widespread, with the rate of adults with payment accounts reaching 87%, exceeding the target for 2025.
With such a strong development trend of e-commerce and digital technology, Deputy Director Lai Viet Anh hopes that the forum will be a connecting space for diverse businesses in the fields of production, e-commerce, distribution, trade, international import and export, technology, and providing digital transformation solutions, etc.
At the seminar, representatives of leading enterprises in the fields of technology, digital finance and e-commerce, such as Shopee, TikTok, Vietnam Post and BIDV, participated in discussions on opportunities and challenges, providing multi-dimensional perspectives and practical solutions to promote the development of the e-commerce market in Vietnam in the coming period.
