Speaking at the event, General Phan Van Giang commended the efforts of Metfone’s staff and employees over the years. The unit’s achievements have significantly contributed to developing Cambodia’s telecommunications system and promoting its economic, social, educational, and healthcare sectors.
The General urged Metfone to further enhance its implementation of social welfare projects in Cambodia, emphasising that the prosperity and stability of neighbouring Cambodia are also positive factors for Vietnam’s growth and stability.
“Continuously innovate, apply advanced technologies, and improve service quality. Conduct business in a healthy, effective, and law-abiding manner. Lead the way in digital transformation to better meet the needs of citizens, businesses, and the government in this new era,” the General emphasised.
Viettel began investing in Cambodia in 2006 and launched its Metfone telecommunications brand in 2009. Over its 15 years of operation, Metfone has established itself as Cambodia’s largest telecommunications network, with 5,300 broadcasting stations and 34,000 km of fibre-optic cables, covering 100% of provinces, including remote areas, borders, and islands.
Metfone has created 3,000 direct jobs with high incomes and over 30,000 indirect jobs, contributing to improving the livelihoods of Cambodians.
Metfone is a strategic partner in national digital transformation projects, collaborating with most of Cambodia’s government ministries. Its digital education ecosystem, SIS, has supported hundreds of thousands of teachers and students with online learning solutions. In healthcare, its PACS data digitisation system helps patients and hospitals store and access medical records, improving the quality of healthcare services.
To date, Metfone has contributed over 1 billion USD to Cambodia’s state budget and allocated more than 120 million USD for charitable activities, including the provision of free internet for schools, funding healthcare and education programmes, and supporting key social initiatives.
