Military officials promoted to rank of General

President Truong Tan Sang announced the promotion of two senior Vietnamese military officials to the rank of General during a ceremony in Hanoi on October 5.

The promoted military officials are Ngo Xuan Lich, Secretary of the Party Central Committee and Chief of the General Department of Politics under the Vietnam People’s Army, and Do Ba Ty, member of the Party Central Committee, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army and Defence Minister.

In his speech, President Truong Tan Sang spoke highly of the two high-ranking military leaders for their dedication to national liberation and reunification efforts in the past as well as in the current national construction and defence initiatives.
He asked them to further exercise their abilities, intellect and strong will, uphold the glorious tradition of the Vietnam People’s Army and remain loyal to the Party, State, nation and people.

They were urged to closely follow campaigns on national defence in the current context and Party building, as well as campaigns promoting the study and following of the moral examples of President Ho Chi Minh with initial focuses on preparations for all-level Party Congresses and the 12th National Party Congress.

General Ngo Xuan Lich, on behalf of his fellow recipient, pledged to remain loyal and justify the trust bestowed on him by the Party, State and people while playing an exemplary role in building a strong army for the sake of national independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
