More flights to popular destinations urged for upcoming holiday

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) has requested domestic airlines to increase the number of flights from both Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to tourism hot spots during the upcoming holiday.

Vietnamese workers will enjoy a five-day holiday from April 29 to May 3 on the occasion of the Hung Kings Commemoration Day, the Southern Liberation and National Reunification Day, and Labour Day.

The travel demand for destinations such as Phu Quoc, Tuy Hoa, Binh Ding, Cam Ranh and Con Dao is expected to surge, especially on April 28-29 and May 2-3.

According to the CAAV, on April 28 and 29, the total number of seats for flights from Hanoi to key destinations such as Nha Trang, Da Nang, Hue, Da Lat, Phu Quoc, Tuy Hoa, Quy Nhon and Dong Hoi are estimated at 41,000.

The passenger occupancy rates for flights to hot spots during the holiday have all exceeded 80%, with some already reporting full capacity.

On April 29, the occupancy rate is particularly high for routes from Hanoi such as Hanoi-Hue (100%), Hanoi-Tuy Hoa (93%), and Hanoi-Dong Hoi/Quy Nhon (96%).

Bookings for flights from Ho Chi Minh City to such destinations are also high, with the total number of seats offered estimated at 40,000.

In the reverse direction, flights back to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City are also witnessing high rates of reservation on May 2 and 3, with occupancy rates reaching over 80% for routes from Phu Quoc, Quy Nhon, Hue and Tuy Hoa to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

During the holiday, the national flagship carrier Vietnam Airlines and its subsidiary VASCO will provide a total of 551,000 seats on 2,800 domestic flights between April 26 and May 5.
