The event was among activities to celebrate the 111th birth anniversary and 79th death anniversary of comrade To Hieu (1912-1944).

To Hieu was born into a family with rich tradition of patriotism in Xuan Cau village, Nghia Tru commune, My Van district, Hung Yen province. Joining the revolutionary activities at the age of 14, To Hieu made significant contributions to the national revolutionary cause.

He was jailed in Con Dao before being moved as a special case to Son La Prison, where he died in 1944.

Despite the harsh conditions of the prison and suffering from various diseases, To Hieu still persuaded many soldiers and guards at the prison to join the revolution.

To this day, the site still has a peach tree named after the brave communist To Hieu.

The To Hieu Scholarship Fund was established in March 2019 to educate the young generations about the credit of comrade To Hieu and prisoners-soldiers at Son La prison. The fund also seeks to encourage the study movements in Son La province.

To date, the fund has presented scholarships to more than 2,000 disadvantaged students, those with disabilities, orphans, and victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin in the province.

At the music event, the fund’s managers delivered 80 scholarships worth 1 million VND each to students in Son La province.
