The athletes will compete for 78 sets of medals in 32 performance and combat events. Each athlete may attend no more than three events.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Nguyen Tien Dung, Director of Quang Nam Provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said that the championship aims to popularise the practice of Vovinam among the public, especially children and young people, in Quang Ngai and across the country.
It is also designed as a platform for martial artists, coaches, and athletes to show off their skills and gain experience from each other.
The event, which runs until June 17, is jointly held by the National Sports Administration, the Vietnam Vovinam Federation, and Quang Nam Provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
