Assessing the local preparations as being in line with legal requirements and meeting prescribed timelines, Hai, who is also a member of the National Election Council (NEC), stressed the need for continued thorough and careful work, as well as close coordination among agencies, sectors and local authorities.
He urged the province to strengthen communications work, carefully review candidates in accordance with statutory criteria, and ensure openness, transparency and democracy to avoid complaints and lawsuits. Attention should also be paid to the proportion of female candidates, those from ethnic minority groups, and young candidates with appropriate qualifications and capacity. He further underlined the need to ensure absolute security, both on the ground and in cyberspace. Acknowledging the province’s proposals and recommendations for submission to the NEC for consideration, Hai expressed confidence that the elections in Ca Mau would be successfully organised, selecting deserving representatives for the NA and People’s Councils at all levels, thereby contributing to the fulfilment of national development goals in the coming period.
Leaders of the Ca Mau People’s Committee reported that the province’s election systems at all levels have now been fully consolidated, with steering committees established at both provincial and commune levels. The local chapter of the Viet Nam Fatherland Front has held the first round of consultations in line with the structure prescribed by NEC. Accordingly, 13 candidates have been introduced for the NA, 73 for the provincial People’s Council, and 1,469 for commune-level People’s Councils. The provincial election committee has designated five NA constituencies and 18 constituencies for People’s Councils at provincial and commune levels.
The provincial election committee will continue to receive candidate nominations and organise the second and third rounds of consultations to select and announce the official list of candidates no later than February 26.
It also sought the NEC’s approval to conduct early voting in two localities, Hon Khoai and Hon Chuoi islands, scheduled to begin at 7:00 on March 13.
