NA Standing Committee issues resolutions on administrative unit reorganisation

National Assembly (NA) Chairman Tran Thanh Man has signed off the NA Standing Committee’s resolutions on reorganising administrative units in 13 provinces and centrally-governed cities.

The resolutions cover Bac Giang, Can Tho, Dak Lak, Dong Nai, Gia Lai, Khanh Hoa, Lao Cai, Ninh Thuan, Quang Ninh, Phu Yen, Thai Binh, Tien Giang and Vinh Long.

Specifically in Bac Giang Province, Yen Dung District will be merged into Bac Giang City, parts of Luc Ngan District will be split to establish Chu Town, and parts of Son Dong District will merge into Luc Ngan District.

Changes to administrative units in Bac Giang will take effect from January 1, 2025.

In Quang Ninh Province, Dong Trieu Town is upgraded into a city, making it the fifth city in the province, along with Ha Long, Cam Pha, Mong Cai and Uong Bi.

In the other provinces and cities, no changes are made to district-level units, while commune-level units are merged to form larger units, which will come into force on November 1, 2024.
