National Youth Pencak Silat championships wrap up

Nhan Dan – The 2013 National Youth Pencak Silat Championships officially wrapped up on July 28 following seven days of competition in the northern province of Tuyen Quang.

This year’s event drew the participation of nearly 500 young martial artists from 26 Pencak Silat teams across the country, who competed in several weight categories in tanding (combat) events for the 12-14, 15-17 and 18-20 age groups.

The host team topped the event for the 12-14 age group with seven gold and five bronze medals.

The Hanoi team also came out on top in the event for the 15-17 age group with four gold and one silver medal.

In the event for the 18-20 age group, the Hanoi team claimed third place with three gold and one silver, while Thanh Hoa finished second with two gold, one silver and five bronze medals.

The championship, held jointly by the National Sports Administration and the Tuyen Quang provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, aims to offer a good opportunity for young martial artists to gain more experience and for the national Pencak Silat team to select outstanding players in preparation for upcoming international and regional competitions.
