Nearly 1,000 join blood donation drive in Phu Tho

Nearly 1,000 people joined a blood donation event in Thanh Thuy District in the northern province of Phu Tho on March 16 in response to the 17th “Red Sunday” blood donation programme.

The programme was hosted by Tien Phong Newspaper in collaboration in with the National Traffic Safety Committee, the National Institute of Haematology and Blood Transfusion, and the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union.

The event in Phu Tho attracted the broad participation of local residents and visitors.

Tien Phong Editor-in-chief Phung Cong Suong said the “Red Sunday” blood donation programme has grown strongly over the years with the support of millions of volunteers at home and abroad.

Every year, the programme provides tens of thousands of units of blood to hospitals nationwide.

Since the programme was launched nearly 17 years ago, each drop of blood donated through “Red Sunday” has demonstrated the unity and compassion of Vietnamese people.

In recent years, Phu Tho has been one of the leading localities in the national blood donation drive with a wide range of blood donation events.

At this year’s event, volunteers donated a total of 650 units of blood.
