The annual event is being co-organised by Tien Phong (Vanguard) Newspaper, the National Committee for Traffic Safety, and the National Institute of Haematology and Blood Transfusions (NIHBT), in nearly 40 provinces and cities nationwide.

As of December 22, the drive has received around 5,230 blood units.

Addressing the launch ceremony, Deputy Minister of Health, Prof., Dr. Tran Van Thuan said that after nearly 30 years since the voluntary blood donation movement was launched in Vietnam, it has attracted the participation of tens of millions of blood donors.

He reported that more than 1.4 million units of blood is collected each year, with the rate of voluntary blood donation is over 97%, and the population donating blood reaching nearly 1.5%.

He called on the community to maintain blood donation activities to ensure blood sources for emergency aid and treatment at hospitals.
