According to the Ministry of Health’s report, more than 45,758 cases of rash fever suspected of measles were recorded in Vietnam in 2024 (a rate of 44.2/100,000 people). Of which, 7,838 cases were positive and there were 18 deaths related to measles. Since the beginning of the year, the country has recorded 38,807 cases of suspected measles rash fever in 63 provinces and cities, including 3,447 cases positive for measles, with 5 deaths related to measles in Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai, Binh Duong, and Binh Phuoc.
According to Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan, given the complicated developments and the rapid spread of measles as well as the need to promote the implementation of the measles vaccination campaign, the Ministry of Health has requested the People’s Committees of provinces and cities to urgently organise and prioritise ensuring human resources, logistics, funding, materials and equipment to speed up the progress of measles vaccination, which must be completed before March 20.
Authorities at all levels, departments, branches and grassroots organisations need to actively coordinate and support the health sector in strengthening the review and management of vaccination subjects and not miss cases that have not been fully vaccinated against measles; mobilise measles vaccine sources through social activities and aid sources; and diversify forms of vaccination in the community during office hours and after office hours.
The Ministry of Health requested local health sectors to accelerate the implementation of the 2025 measles vaccination campaign in the area, prioritising vaccination for children in districts with many cases or suspected cases of measles.
