Railways begin selling 2027 Tet holiday tickets on September 5

From 8 a.m. on September 5, the railway sector will begin selling around 300,000 tickets for the 2027 Tet holiday, operating 57 train services with more than 800 carriages, while also applying a range of fare reductions and passenger support policies.

With a plan to operate 57 train services and more than 800 carriages, along with a range of fare reduction policies, the railway sector aims to ensure safe and convenient travel for passengers and effectively meet travel demand before, during and after Tet.

According to the transport plan for the 2027 Tet holiday, the peak period will run from January 23 to the end of February 25, 2027, corresponding to the 16th day of the twelfth lunar month of the Year of the Horse to the 20th day of the first lunar month of the Year of the Goat.

The Tet holiday will run from February 5 to 8, 2027, corresponding to the 29th day of the last lunar month of the Year of the Horse to the end of the third day of Tet in the Year of the Goat. Based on actual passenger demand, the railway sector will operate additional pairs of trains on certain sections from Sai Gon to Da Nang, Tam Ky, Dieu Tri and Nha Trang; and from Ha Noi to Vinh and vice versa, serving people’s travel and spring-outing needs.

An estimated 300,000 through train tickets will be put on sale nationwide through direct and online ticketing channels. From 8 a.m. on September 5, 2026, passengers can purchase Tet train tickets through the railway sector’s official websites, including dsvn.vn, vetau.com.vn, vetauonline.vn and giare.vetau.vn.

In addition, passengers can purchase tickets through applications and e-wallets such as MoMo, VNPay, ZaloPay, ShopeePay and ViettelPay, as well as Smart Banking applications and train-ticketing applications on mobile devices.

Passengers can also purchase tickets directly at railway stations, agents and official ticket outlets managed by the railway sector. For assistance, passengers can contact the Sai Gon Station ticket hotline at 1900 1520 or the Ha Noi Station ticket hotline at 1900 0109.

The diversification of ticketing channels is expected to help reduce overcrowding at railway stations, making it more convenient for passengers to proactively choose their journeys and travel times.

For students of universities, academies, colleges, professional secondary schools and vocational schools, the railway sector will offer fare reductions of between 10% and 20%.

During the 2027 Tet holiday, the railway sector will implement a range of fare reduction policies to support passengers, including programmes for early ticket purchasers, group travellers, passengers purchasing return tickets, students and beneficiaries of social welfare policies.

Beneficiaries of social welfare policies, such as Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, war invalids, people entitled to policies for war invalids, people exposed to toxic chemicals, people with severe disabilities, elderly people and children aged from 6 to under 10, will also be eligible for fare reductions in accordance with regulations.

Each adult passenger travelling by train is entitled to a free ticket for one child under 6 years old. From the second child under 6 years old onwards, a child ticket must be purchased. Preferential fare reductions cannot be combined; passengers are entitled to only the highest applicable reduction.
